Clang for Climate is a simple, high-impact action that anyone can take part in at 6pm on Saturday 30 October – just before COP26 starts on 1 November.
All you need is a pot, pan, bucket, bell or anything else you can use to make a loud noise.
And all you need to do is to stand on your doorstep and make some noise!
If hundreds of thousands of people do this at the same time, it will send an unmissable message to leaders gathering in Glasgow. We want them to be in no doubt: we are horrified at the accelerating climate emergency that is already destroying so many lives and livelihoods around the world. And we demand that our leaders take serious and immediate action to protect the world’s climate.
The latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was described by the UN Secretary General as “code red for humanity”.
As he said: “The evidence is irrefutable: greenhouse‑gas emissions from fossil-fuel burning and deforestation are choking our planet and putting billions of people at immediate risk. Global heating is affecting every region on Earth, with many of the changes becoming irreversible… there is no time for delay and no room for excuses.”
We cannot afford for COP26 to result in nothing but rhetoric and empty promises. And we need to send our leaders the strongest possible message to let them know how we feel.
Lots of different groups and individuals will be joining in, but this is not a party-political action and you don’t need to be part of any group to take part. Climate breakdown threatens each and every one of us, and only by acting together will we be able to meet this challenge.
If you’ll be joining in on 30 October, please do help us spread the word on social media using the hashtag #ClangForClimate.
All around the world, communities have traditionally used pots, pans and bells to raise the alarm at moments of crisis. We have never faced a crisis on the scale of the climate emergency. Let’s raise the loudest alarm possible.
“The only chance we have at the forthcoming COP is if people actually say to their politicians: we want action.“
– David Attenborough
